The Boondocks Music Festival originated in the early 2000s as a birthday bash for CEO and one of the original festival founders, Michele Conrey. It has evolved into its current format since 2017.
When most people think of the quaint, jewel of NE Collin County, Farmersville, Texas, they are likely aware that this is the area where the country’s most decorated WWII hero and Hollywood actor, Audie Murphy, spent his childhood. What they might not realize is that among a vast array of notable individuals in its colorful history, including Olympic gold medalists, Major League Baseball players, and world champion rodeo cowboys, are famous and even world renowned musicians. For example, Stevie Benton, bassist for American heavy metal band “Drowning Pool” resided in Farmersville and attended Farmersville High School. Herb Ellis, a world famous jazz guitarist from Farmersville, toured with legendary greats, Oscar Peterson and backed up the likes of Louis Armstrong, Ella Fitzgerald, and Dizzy Gillespie, just to name a few. More recently a slew of talented Country artists such as the “Clay Potter Band” have entertained audiences and kept the deep rooted music scene alive and well in the melodic 75442. With new bars and eateries on the square and surrounding area opening, such as “The Stable” and the soon coming brand new “Charlies,” in conjunction with the older establishments like the Town Square “Music Hall” bringing in local and regional talent, Farmersville is once again embracing its long standing music friendly traditions.
Adding to this rich local tradition, is the BOONDOCKS MUSIC FESTIVAL hosted by Lakeland RV Ranch at 4609 CR 551 in Farmersville, Texas. What originated in the early 2000’s as a birthday bash for CEO and one of the original festival founders, Michele Conrey, has now evolved into the current Boondocks Event Format since 2017 and has grown steadily in attendance annually. The festival venue is a natural sloped grass amphitheater on a ¼ acre pond. The Music stage faces across the water, where tubes and paddle boats can float right up to the front of stage. A grand pier extends the width of the pond, so dancers can enjoy the bands, lights, and exhilaration of being suspended over the water as they move to the music.
Festival attendees bring blankets, blow-up mattresses, lawn chairs, coolers, then make a trip up to the Food Truck Yard or the Pavilion for some excellent food or beverages. Public restrooms are available, along with a fire pit, outdoor screen, and games for the children. A dog park is open 24/7 and chickens, ducks, dogs, and horses are a part of the Ranch setting for your family enjoyment. Shuttles from the parking areas are available as well.
The BOONDOCKS MUSIC FESTIVAL is the 1st Saturday in October. Festivities begin around 5:00 PM and extend until Midnight. Come feel the “Thrill Of The Ville!” See your Band @ Lakeland!!
